Hey what are the differences between the type RA and the standard STI? mainly regarding the STI6 type RA.. is the poweroutput greater than the standard STI? and would a STI6 Type RA be quicker than a standard STI7 or STI8? tks

Hi Akram,

The STi 6 RA is 300ps as standard with the WRX Type RA being 280.
The standard STi is also 300ps as standard.
The STi RA has the DCCD variable centre diff & roof vent while the others do not.
The RAs are both lighter than the STi and so have a higher power to weight ratio. Hence they are quicker, as well as rarer.

The V6 STi RA is around 100kgs lighter than the V7 and has more power (280ps V7 vs 300ps V6) therefore will be quicker. Although the V7 has a higher top speed.

Will add a few more bits.
Classic Type RA's dont have ABS, they do have quick rack steering though, intercooler water spray (man and auto, well mine does) an engine oil cooler, no underseal.
Re V6 v STi V7, well both have 280ps (none have 300ps out of the factory except the S series cars, but its a common misconception that RA's have 300ps), the V7 has a close ratio gearbox, the V6 is still very potent though but the MY01 should have the advantage as it will be slightly better in the performance figures due to higher engine outputs in both BHP and torque.

Theres some info incorrect here....

Classic wrx type ra have abs,and no dccd,no waterspray,no red top manifold, and two pot brakes, but many could have had these fitted as factory option.
classic wrx sti type ra have no abs as cannot be used with the dccd.

The ra range have close ratio/stronger boxes which explains the manic acceleration!!!!

The v7 sti has not got shorter gearing than the classic ra range,it has the same gearing as the sti 8/9 etc.

The classic type ra range will out handle, accelerate the newr heavier range of sti due to power to weight ratio, front helcal differential, etc

Unless its a spec c :D of course

All the new age type RA's are Spec C's ;)
I was referring to the STi type RA i think thats what he meant for the differences between the RA and normal STi (well thats what it looked like ;)) and the 6 speed box is a close ratio box (3rd gear to get into 60, 5th to get over 108mph, then it changes between JDM and UK), but we could also go to some of the classic Sti type RA's that had the longer 5th gear but we'd be here all night
But new age STi Type RA v Classic, and the new age come out on top (people dont want you to know that though ;))

Car planet have a Spec C Ltd in http://www.carplanetltd.co.uk/ and at a nice price too! (17100 quid) with less than 2k on the clock.... what gets me though is that the wheels aint the lightweight BBS items that these cars should come with.... still may be worth looking at
