Hi folks,

I've just had a new short block put in my 1995 ra import. it went pop about 500 miles after the run in period, which was stictly adhered to. the garage that did the work are now saying I humped the car and got it up to excessive RPM and the warrenty is void. This is not the case, i drove it like a little old lady as i was still a little scared of the 3000 notes re-build cost.

They are basing this on the data logging on the standard ECU in the car. It is my understanding that the standard ECU offers no such functionality. If anyone could give me spec's on what information is available from the standard ECU or offer any advice on how to progress this with them I would be gratefull.

The garage is a respected modifier of impreza's and have been amazingly helpfull with my previous problem. I blew the previous engine raging around knockhill and I can understand their concern but I just don't think it is possible to get the info they refer to from my standard ECU. I have looked into getting this info previously (just after I vought the car) and the only solution was to upgrade the ECU to one with data logging capabilites. This may have been a sales pitch and it may be available easily but if anyone knows the facts it would help me out.

Thanks very much for any help.

Hi matey & welcome :D

Sorry to hear the bad new.

If they have the info from the ECU why not ask them to show you the printout along with proof it's come from your ECU.

Dunno if it will help but it's gotta be worth a try.

I also know a man who knows everything about these cars. I'll ask him too.

hi, yeah I was planning on asking to see the data.

Ive been thinking about what happened a bit more and I'm sure I would have only been up at about 6000RPM. I was in 5th about 70mph and started to accelarate to overtake, it went almost immediately and I lost power so I don't think it could have climbed much above 6000, if that.

3000rpm about 55mph in 5th
4000rpm about 75mph in 5th

That's about right i think, not really sure above that. but I'm sure I was going no faster than 85.

That would be great if you could ask him about the ECU, cheers - I owe you one.
