hi all
thanks for stopping by, just got myself my first scoobie its a my00 classic type RA. This been my first scoobie i dont know if i have done the right thing, by buying this model, last few days i have seen the tank empty with vicious speed but i guess thats an impreza, anyway i think i am going to need you guys help from time to time as i am wanting to do minor servicing and general up keep myself, i have very limited knowledge about cars but keen to learn more. I am not planning on doing anything major so dont worry :)

First of i have a couple of questions / requests
1. there seems to be a strong smell of petrol in the car, i have seen some posts on other sites about pipes etc needing changed or particular faults with certain years of car, also comments about it just been unburnt fuel(if it is unburnt fuel how do i stop that i wanna use all the fuel in the car) it doesnt seem to be there all the time but is definately there when car is cold and hot and seems more prevelant when idling or pulling of after idling or just after starting up

2 The dealer has made a hash of fitting a nasty head unit in it, i have my own blaupunkt standard unit nothing flash that i will need to put in, to me it looks like a very tight fit in the console, or the dealer has just made a hash of putting the existing one in, also only seems one speaker is working and that speaker has got to be the worst one i have ever heard, so i am looking for hints and tips about replacing speakers in doors and putting in a head unit, i know the dealer had the whole console of when he fitted it but thats as much as i know so far

any hints and tips and offers of help welcomed, i am in aberdeen btw.

thanks for taking time to read

Also 3rd point i was going to ask about, it is extremely loud i mean almost embaressingly so, i am not really into scaring old ladies and kids whilst driving to work but i do love the burble, i reckon its probably got an uprated back box on it cause its about 4 inchs, if that box was replaced with something else right for car would it reduce the noise ?

Hi matey & welcome to the club :D

Is your car a WRX RA or an STi RA?

Get some pics in the members gallery so we can all have a look 8)

One thing is for sure - fuel consumption is in direct proportion to the weight of your right foot

Why not put some pics up of your stereo install so we can see whether we can help.

I fitted a head unit in mine & it was no problem, but I suppose it depends on what has been done to yours.

Regarding speakers.......Type RAs are supposed to be light. ie. no sound proofing or even radios fitted as standard so I wouldn't expect a fantastic sound no matter what.

That said, I'm no ICE expert & there will be folks who can point you in the right direction.

Regarding the backbox.

If it's the size you say it's probably an aftermarket one.

You should be able to get a cheap std one off of eBay for very little cash.
