hello

I own a 96 UK turbo Impreza & im thinking of getting an RA.

My question is, is there a big enough difference in performance to justify an RA?

thanx

Having owned a MY98 UK Turbo for 2.5 years and now owning the equivalent MY98 STi RA i'd definitely say it's worthwhile. I tuned my UK to 300bhp and it still isn't a patch on the standard RA. 8)

Cheers Carl,

Looks like it may be time to upgrade :D

I went the same route. Tuned UK Turbo to Tuned RA and the difference was notable.

Just make sure you get a good one

I have some friends with tuned UK motors. Trouble is they start from a poor baseline. A 96 UK motor is something like 215bhp whilst the corresponding RA would be 260+. Plus you get the benefit of a lightweight body, extra spec, close ratio gearbox etc. on an RA.

Tuned RAs leave normal WRX sitting, so if you're driving a UK motor you should definitely test drive a JDM RA.

If you can put up with flat out at 120mph, and I can, then you will love the RA.

If you like blitzing STi's with PPP then you will love the RA... :D

If you like blitzing Evo FQ340 MR's then you will love the RA... :D

If you like blitzing Porsche boxster's you will love the RA.... :D

The list goes on....the RA's are superb as long as you don't want a full blown top end speed race...which we wouldnt want or condone on our UK roads anyway would we

There are bound to be someone now saying that the RA didnt have a chance against the PPP and the Evo...believe me, it did and has and does, and I'm only running 297bhp, but boy it puts it down nice and sweet...

145mph with the 4.111 final drive.

The acceleration from 80-145 in 5th is incredible. I know it's a cliche, but it pulls and pulls and pulls. I've driven a few quick cars and nothing compares.

I dont want top end speed but....interesting...how much for a final drive of 4.111 ?

I've had an MY97 UK, MY99 STi Wagon, MY99 Tek 3'd UK and now my MY95 STi RA. The RA really is an animal compared to all the others - even the V5 STi.

Much more raw & fun to drive, however the fuel economy is

Indicated 145mph at the limiter. If I was at Bruntingthorpe I'd probably lust after longer gearing, but everywhere else I find it perfect.

Mines only 345bhp (@ the fly) and about 1230kgs. Even if I drive like a complete pansy the fuel just dissapears. But, we all go into Impreza ownership with our eyes wide open. The side effect of neck snapping acceleration is super high fuel bills.

I do 5 tanks of fuel and 5 bottles of OB at Castle Coombe. I was going for my PB lap in October and did 3/4 of a tank in 20 mins

Ohh so true :D

Also out accelerates a Porsche Carrera who happened to pull out on me whilst chatting on his mobile. (ermm how much is an 06' Carrera, and how much for an RA?)
He was'nt too impressed, especially since I was 3 up
