Hi there, I’m new to this forum. Hopefully I can soak up your expert advice and give some back as my car develops.

I’ve recently bought a new engine, it’s a WRX STi6 RA import engine. Its standard apart from a closed neck stainless downpipe from the turbo NO CAT, and I’ve also removed the aircon pump.

I’m looking for an accurate bhp/torque/rpm graph for this engine etc, as need to know its powerband so can select the correct gearing for a custom gearbox I’m having built.

Also I don't know what rpm it hits the redline and how far this can be pushed. (anyone know what it shows on their tachometer for this model??)

Thanks, Al :)

I think you are confusing yourself here, the power band will be set by the ECU, if you have an aftermarket ecu you can effectively set the power band as you want it.
My "normal" sti6 engine has an 8k rev limit, tbh, I would be surprised if there is any difference between your lump and mine, possibly more aggressiove cams but I doubt it very much.
If you are speccing custom box ratios then they should be based on what you intend to do with the car rather than what other peoples perceptions of the engine are

Its a standard JDM ECU.

I still need to know where I'm getting optimum bhp/torque, and where the powerband starts and 'ends'.

I agree the gearing is selected by its intended use (drag racing) but I optimum revs, bhp/torque determins the gear ratio's.

cheers :)

hhmm, not sure about your methods but hey-ho its not my car.
in my experience peak power has been somewhere near 6600/7000 rpm and peak torque somewhere near 5000rpm. power and torque equal to each other at 5250.
it will vary on car to car, whether the ecu is standard or whatever as you do get monday, wednesday and friday cars even on the std. ecu.
if your drag racing a type RA on std. ecu then you are:
asking for trouble without a specific bespoke map
not going to be fully competitive (especially after forking out for custom ratios)

good luck though and may see you at the events

Please explain?

asking for trouble: due to the fact the fuel is a different grade here and you will be using every zone on the map so really pushing the limits of the block and most likely have to use Booster in big quantities to ensure its safe.
not competitive: because you wont be able to bolt on turbos etc to make yourself quick as the std. ecu wont like it one bit and most likely det its tits off.

98RON fuel is different but not THAT different surely? I'll prolly use additiona octane booster while racing anyway.

The plan has always been to upgrade to a Mappable ECU and woudn't just bolt any old turbo on. I was advised to go for the V6 as the V4 I was originally going to use is elegedly unmappable although I never actually confirmed this.
TBH I was going to go the prodrive route but it wasn't until I started lookig at forums I realised how many other options there are.

As for the block limits, I intend on making 400bhp by 2008 (2006 build, 2007 race and let my account recover assuming no breakages) , so yes, your prolly right ;)

You can remap a V4 but you will need an after market ECU, such as an Apexi or GEMs etc.

I heard that GEMS will only "work" with VER5 STI but I may be wrong.
Does it work with VER4 as well???
Does anyone have GEMS and does it have ALS function programmable?
Thanks!
