I'm guessing this came from a Motul reference list????? URL please. I have hunted through hundreds of threads on dccd oils etc for gearboxes and more importantly spoken to people that actually use the various products and I'll be staying with my DCCD unfriendly according to Motul Castrol Syntrax or Redline. - even the mechanics at one of the largest Subaru dealerships in New Zealand run syntrax.

I had the same problem with my 88 subaru RX( clutch pack lsd), and I had to convince the dealership they had put the wrong lsd oil in. I just ended up adding trans-x additive or something like that.

Basically Syntrax is not suitable for LSD's it does not carry the correct specs and neither does the Motul Gear 300.

The LSD oil as mentioned is the Motul 90PA which is suitable for LSD's.

The only 1 product solution that I know of (ie suitable for Gearbox and LSD) is the Silkolene Silktran SYN 5 75w-90.

Simon
What is your opinion on the Redline Shockproof stuff? Building an RA for rallying and know at some point the gearbox is going to eat itself on an event but till it does I want to give it a fighting chance! Have heard this stuff is alright......

Hmm.

Well, I do not want to go dissing others oils on the internet but I do have chemical analysis on this one. If you'd like a copy feel free to email me but it is not in the same league as the Silkolene SYN 5 75w-90 tbh.

We have recently been putting close to 1000bhp through this oil in the Dragon RX7 (ran 9.3sec 1/4 on Sunday at Santa Pod) and the EVO 400 Drag Monster without problems. Sort of speaks for itself I guess.

Thanks Simon. Sorry to put you on a spot, I wouldn't for a minute expect you to have a public go at any manufacturers oil but I guess I'm looking for recommendations on what I should use in the old box!

Cheers
Nick

Bit late picking up on this one.

I would like to say, I wrote off to Opie oils for there recommendation on what oils to use in my STI V2 Type RA pointing out I had a DCCD. Email to them pasted below for people to study. why did they recommend what they did, obviously when you read the email they recommend the opposites that have been disscussed on this forum for the DCCD and Rear diff??? I am just interested in other peoples opinions before I write to opie. They sell all th etop brands so they had choice.

Cheers

LSD

After just buying a 95 sti-ra I would like to change the gear oil. I was recommended motol gear 300, but I think I'll go for motol 90pa.

I have a query:

- Are there 2 changes to be done with the dccd cars? ie gearbox and rear diff? ( apologies for my ignorance, but new to impreza )

My gears are crunching when car is warm and especially after driven hard. not sure if its clutch or just wrong gear oil.
