Well now the engine is fully run in, i thought it was about time i started fitting the bits i have collected on the old girl..
First up Autobahn intercooler.. :D

Quite a bit of cutting to do here!!!

And it looks like i,m gonna have fun sorting the fitting of the Aps Cak, along with the hard pipes of the intercooler, as space seems limited in o/s wing :?
Will update pics as i,m working on it..hopefully the powdercoating of pipes will be ready for tomorrow..

Jodie,
It's a work in progress matey - we're looking at getting info & pics for the RA rally car & adding them to the site as things get done.
It would be great if you could get pics & info of your upgrades too though.

This kit is a copy of the Hybrid monster...with Aluminium pipes and cooler.Got it with part of a groupbuy with scoobnet..Was only £195.00 delivered from Apex performance.
The Aps cooler for classic would have been around £1000.00!!!
The only thing i did change on the Autobahn kit was to use Mikalor clamps and had the pipes coated..Will post pics of install as i carry out work as i,m doing it in spare time and am in no rush... 8)

O.k had a couple of hours spare today... Removed the air box and resonator thingy..and started to mount the pipes from turbo and inlet manifold.
They lined up pretty well and cleared the battery terminal by quite a margin..and also the bonnet shuts without fowling 8)
Put plenty of pics up so hopefully work involved speaks for itself...

WILL YOU HAVE TO PUT A CONE FILTER ON NOW OR :?:
Had to remove the standard airbox for pipework to fit. Will be using an Aps cold air kit, basically a cone filter that mounts in the inner wing,so it only draws cold air as appose to a cone filter sat in the hot engine bay.
Aps dont make them anymore but i managed to get one second hand for a steal  These can only be fitted with a remap or your engine will go bang very quickly!!
Will also be changing the Maf..to either a version sti4 one or possibly a nissan 300 zx version..not sure yet.

Managed to get some spare time today and completed the installation of the hard pipes.Had to join the two holes on inner wing but this side(drivers side)fell together beautifully.....
The other pipes from intake where an absolute pig to fit...
I couldn,t get them to sit far away enough from fan and housing, but with a bit of persuasion they eventually lined up nicely 8)

I too fitted this conversion went like a dream just a bit of hassle with the front bumper, bit at a time is the advice you can take a bit more off but you cant put it back on when it was remapped (Paul, Zen) it held boost a lot longer and never noticed any lag at all.

What induction kit did you use in the end ?
Opted for a K+n kit in the end....we couldn,t fit a big enough filter in the wing to accomodate future power levels....and the aps kit would have had to be bodged to fit.
I am currently building an airbox with cold air feed to house a roger clark big k+n filter..will put some pics of the progress so far up soon...

Ahh .... met you and your other half on that sunny day at the pod!!!!
Think the K+N or the Apexi filters are most highly regarded by most..are you going to fit yourself???
If you are would advise to get the pipework powdercoated as mine still looks spot on but a mates has tarnished and gone almost white with a chalky finish!!
Are you gonna make it to the Pod or the forest meet this month??

Thinking of trying to get it made out of carbon, then add some heatproof matting inside and possibly a cold air feed....it think it will get a feed from the top of headlight if i remove the rubber seal on bonnet.
Another option would be to fit morrettes i suppose and use the inner lense as the feed, but not to keen on this as like the original clear headlights.
Also picked these up a couple of weeks ago....

Hi Adam,
Looking good mate.
Following on from the PM you sent this week, Looking at the pics it looks like you are going to need a reducing coupler not a straight coupler for connecting up the 2 intake pipes.
I do have some odd reducers here that I got made up ages ago for something else, send me both OD's of the pipes and I will see what I have got though I think they might all be red, possibly one blue but not sure.
Edited to add: Just realised you are going to use the Samco inlet hence the straight coupler. Do you realise you have to raise the inlet manifold on spacers to get the 3" pipe under.

Hi Ralph
Wasn,t sure whether i,d need to raise or not....so it looks like i need some Carl Davey spacers..I still need a 75mm hose joiner but found some 95mm plastic pipe in B&q of all places!!
have you got a 75mm jioner in stock?

Have just found a 3" red silicone hose and a 75mm alloy joiner on the web from a company called Viper performance.....think i,ll give them ago as no-one else seems to stock red silicone or joiners.Had tried Rally design,Demon tweeks, and Lma but they all had none in stock!!and it would have been 6-8weeks wait.

Hi rooferman ,have started my fmic and been looking at your pics on here to help me. One thing ive seen you do is cut your bumper hanger so the fmic sits flat on it. The instructions with mine show the hanger not being cut. As i dont know anyone else locally to see what they have done. Im just worried by cutting ill be loosing alot of strength from it? What do you reckon? By the way rooferman have sent you a couple of pm, did you get them?

Hi mate...did you grt the pics i sent on snet????
The bumper bar was trimmed back as i followed a guide for a Hybrid intercooler....the autobahn one probably didn,t need trimming but once the intercooler is bolted up it all stiffens itself nicely.
I have now sorted out the filter hosing and the filter sits behind the headlamp...and have found someone who can fabricate me the air box/sheild from Carbon....
Will post pics shortly...

Still have the template and am looking to get it made from sheet ally for the time being as have struggled to get anyone to commit in making it from carbon fibre.......will get more time to concentrate on it next year as have been busy with work lately...
Will be relocating battery and getting cage/seats sorted in jan/feb of next year so should make time then for carbon airbox and some kind of feed for it....

Adam,
You do not need someone to make the box in carbon for you, just use 3mm flat carbon sheet and basically make the box exactly as you would in sheet ally.
For the fixings at the bottom of side panel just rivit on 25mm angle ally and do the same at the top for somewhere to fix the lid to, you can drill this and use some 5 or 6mm rivnuts to bolt the lid down with, for the outside edge of the lid use either the wing bolts or again 25mm angle brackets fixed to the inner wing and using rivnuts in the top sections for bolting the lid down.

No, Metal cutting jigsaw blades will do the job but buy a pack because the carbon blunts them in no time at all:)
To tidy up the cut edges just use 120 or 80 grit paper on a flat block.
Wear a mask though, the fine black dust gets everywhere.
mneame
05-12-2007, 12:18 PM
have a contact through a mate who could make them in carbon and also one that can make them in alloy / metal. will get on the case and let you know.
cheers for the input guys.
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b43/peanuts99/shield2.jpg
use B&Q sheet ally, about £20 for all that you need for that box.
Then as you can see I used heat wrap and sticky-backed ally tape to insulate.
you have the template (and it looks cool!) so cutting the ally with tin snips or strong scissors will be a doddle.
you can bend sheet ally at the end of your desk (if your busy at work ;) ) with a small block of wood to keep it 1 piece ;)

On a different note the small grill bits below the front indicators where did you get them from, or did you just spray them yourself?

P.S keep up the good work, you should do requests for mods and post up the pics of the install, fancy setting up a oil pressure, temp and boost gauge assembly on your car, with appropriate pics and how 2 section? :)
