There are more events listed here, with direct links to some good sites:

http://www.midlandspeed.org.uk/index.htm (http://www.midlandspeed.org.uk/index.htm)
The reason for entering different championships is that it gives you the opportunity to compete at different venues. Also, the cost to register/enter the championships is quite low (£30.00 ish for Loton Park) and once you have entered you choose how many events you can do (££££ is usually the limiting factor) :(
So for example, Sunday 6th April is the first event I can get to, so I will gets points for the Loton and the Toyo Championship(s).

Hi Guy's,
Great to see your well into your hillclimbing. I have done a season and a
bit in an MR2 N/A, but have just bought a WRX RA. I will be running at Gurston Down in the RA on Sunday 22nd June 2008, this is my debut run
in the RA. It is bound to be hacking with rain so I will need to sus out the track pretty well in an unfamiliar car. The car is road legal so I have had a hack out tonight in the wet as a practice, all felt really good :-) Thing is
I dont know what will happen if the RA gets real loose, and not sure if I will be able to get it back into shape, so the plan for this meet is to keep in on the black stuff and be able to drive it home :D I will post my result up here Sunday night. Have fun over the weekend guy's, Stay safe!
Later,
Jules

The weather stayed good at Gurston on 22nd June 2008 though my first run was on a damp track. Took me a couple of runs to get used to the New car, then I was running pretty good. I had not even had time to change the tyres on the RA after buying it and I have to say that the soft fairly high profile wall of the tyre was causing wallowing and some understeer, not nice at 85 Mph through Hollow bend:lol: however managed a first in class (RGP) with 39.68 so not bad for my debut run. Now I need to sort tyres, and brakes before my July meeting at Gurston. I want to use Toyo Proxes R888 (1B's comply for RGP at Gurston) but on the 15" wheels
I am not sure wheather to stick with 205/55/15 or go wider and lower profile. Is 225/50/15 over the top? the rolling diameter would be the same as the standard 205/55/15 bar a millimeter. Any advice here would be welcome. Not sure if Toyo do 205/55/15 in R888's :?: I dont really want to upgrade to 16's due to cost (Run low on money after buying the car) I am not sure if low profile tyres on bigger wheel (Maintain rolling diameter) is the way to go. It is surly good to allow the tyre to mould into the track on tight turns as long as the wall stays firm. Low profiles tend to skip over the surface possibly :? any advice would be good.
Cheers,
Jules.

Well done mate. First in class on the first outing cant be bad.
I'm not sure you can fit bigger brakes under 15" rims. But not 100% on that.
Sorry I cant help with the tyres. Ive never been on a track but I know you can get 16" wheels & tyres for peanuts these days.
:D

Firstly many congratulations on your achievement - first in class on your debut is a stunning achievement (took me 4 years to get to that standard).
Tyres - what a minefield!
It sometimes comes down to personal preference, and of course we are limited by choice as per list 1A or 1Bs from the Blue Book.
I upgraded the standard 2 pots on my RA to 4 pots, nothing fancy, just second hand refurbished STi 4 pots, but, decent discs, pads, fluid and brake line makes a world of difference.
Therefore with 17" I am limited for tyres - I opted for Toyo T1Rs @ 215/40 17 sizing - suits me fine (car has been 1st, 2nd (and one 3rd in class) for the past 2 1/2 years. The lower profile of the 40 rather than 45 seems fine - no issues.
I have had long discussions with fellow Impreza competitors, and we each have a theory on the best tyre/wheel combination.
Let us know what works for you - whatever you have seems to do the job

Report:
Monsoon weather on the approach to Shelsley in Saturday morning, and I seriously considered whether it was worth risking damage to car under such conditions. Weather cleared during practice runs, and some good grip on the bottom of the hill, but very damp and slippery at Top S bend.
Sideways with full lock under full throttle - car went fanbloodytastic. http://subaru-central.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif
Standing water everywhere.
Programme stated "The Subaru Impreza is the car most likely to be stolen and/or used as a getaway vehicle by villians. Formidable power and a superb 4WD system should enable it to take on the muc more powerful "supercar" TVR and porsche entries today".
No pressure then http://subaru-central.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif
First practice
2.21 seconds for 64 feet, 37.71 seconds finish
Second practice
2.02 seconds for 64 feet, 35.64 seconds finish
First competitive run
2.04 seconds for 64 feet, 35.41 seconds finish.
Second competitive run
2.02 seconds for 64 feet, 35.05 seconds finish*.
This was my personal best time after 2 years of competing at Shelsley, and meant I was 2nd in class to John Murphy's Bugeye Impreza.
Great run for the Imprezas with the 1st and 2nd positions in class.
More to cme from the car, and more importantly, on a very dry run I think I can find 1/2 or 1 second more............bit more commitment into Bottom S bend will help.

Hi Richard,
You and the car seem to be very "hooked up". Looking at your times (apart from the 1st practice) you are very consistant which is what it is all about:o

Thanks for the support / feedback Richard (and other members).
I have had a season and a half in the Mr2 so know Gurston pretty well. My Type RA is a standard WRX running 260Bhp at present, steep learning curve at the meeting but fun. Just love the way the RA
launches off the start line :)
I will fit R1 Concepts drilled grooved discs with Ceramic / Kevlar pads,
same as my MR2 change the fluid to mineral compatible DOT 5.1, that should give me the braking that I need without too much expense. Of course the 4 pots would be better but finance and all that:(
My car is a 1995 import on 15" rims. I dont want to raise the gearing so
I was thinking of using Proxes R888's 215/50/15 that will drop the profile down and slighly reduce the rolling diameter. I am going to buy some bigger wheels for road use to give me a higher gearing. Any advice would be apreciated. I can use 1B's even for RGP class at Gurston. I have acess to some bigger wheels that might be cheap ;) But happy to stick with the 15's for sprinting at present. Did the later RA's with 16" wheels use the same gearing just with lower profile tyres?
Anyway I am booked back for the July 20th Meeting at Gurston I hope to be running the BHC in August if possible.
Cheers again guy's,
Jules.

Well the hill climbing season is almost over , the ra has run virtually seamlessly allowing a few podium finishes , could not of asked for more in my first year . This to me is hard to beleive in a 14 year old car that has coverd over 90k , will put a link below. (in car) @ loton park. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eiv5y8nTJBY
