Excellent weekend of hill climbing – personal best of 35.35 seconds on a hill that had some damp patches on it, so in “theory” a few more 10ths to be found at the summer events when the track will be drier and warmer.
Practice on Sunday was in monsoon conditions – even 4 wheel drive of the Impreza no help when going sideways (great fun but not the fastest way up).
I had boost problems on the first of three practice runs, as the car was running too hot and the ECU/engine management computer went into safe mode and turned off the boost – no boost no power.
Thanks to fellow Impreza competitor (Rob Harriman) and his knowledge of the workings of the Impreza engine, we countered this major problem by letting the car cool after the 1st practice run by leaving the bonnet open and parking in the shade, and then dropped some ice onto the intercooler. Problem solved and boost was back. Nothing quite like 345bhp on full song.
