Hi,

Having owned a '95 WRX and a '98 STi, both with track-biased suspension and brake mods, I'm looking to buy a version 5/6 STi RA limited.

Have test-driven a v6 (#1037/2000) and loved it. Before deciding, I'm viewing what I think is a v5 (#677/1000) tonight.

The v6 has HKS 3" Hiper 'silent' system, K&N and Apexi remap, and pulled stronger right through the range compared to my old STi4. Liked it a lot. The v5 seems to have a cleaner history, but current owner isn't sure whether the (std) ecu has been remapped, he assumes not. It has an Afterburner Vortex and HKS mushroom. Am feeling quite wary of the fact that it's probably running the standard original map, especially with that induction...

What are the cosmetic differences between the 5 and the 6, anyone know? The 6 that I viewed had mesh covers over the foglamp holes; haven't seen those before on a classic. Any other differences?

Any other advice would be appreciated. Basically, I'm looking for just about the best classic shaped Impreza that I can find, but with a view to using it rather than hiding it away under a blanket!

cheers
Andy

as far as I remember:
v6 rear spoiler is a bit different, more agressive
v6 has colour coded dash surround
v6 was limited to 2k, v5 to 1k, so is rarer
different logo on the seats

maybe some othe minor differences

good luck with your choice

Viewed the v5 last night and the odds have swung to the v6 (which is still for sale)...

I think the v6 had a deeper front lip, as well as the mesh fog covers, otherwise the differences were as noted by Amigo (thanks!). The v6 I viewed also had drilled metallic pedals (the v5 had rubber inserts) and blue mats with metal inserts ... guess the mats could have been aftermarket, but they matched the other interior blue bits nicely.

Andy,

The V6 STi had the front lip spoiler but not the RA version. No RAs have lip spoilers or sideskirts as standard. They don't have the mesh covers as standard either - these are aftermarket.

The metal (STi) pedals are an STi option - I have a scan of the brochure somewhere if you want a look.

Hi Dean,

I'd appreciate a scan of the brochure please! Could email to adbdba at gmail dot com, perhaps?

Thanks in advance,

Andy,

Looks like Vaclav has saved me a job!!

The STi catalogue is on there too.

Have agreed to buy the v6 :) Looking forward to picking it up next Friday.

The rear wing looks like the v5 one however, although all other aspects check out correct for the v6. Wonder why that would be?
