View Full Version : How can i tell if my car is a type ra

Hi all,
Impreza virgin here. This probably sounds REAL stupid but i have just purchased my first impreza and when i picked it up the guy said he just found out its a lightweight version as all the body panels are aluminium? How can i tell if this is true

Hi Dean,
Sorry probably sound really stupid. Its a 1996 in Mica blue imt admit every thing is seriously light but never owned one, it does have nardi steering wheel etc is that standard?

Easiest way to find out what it it is:

1)Find metal plate in engine bay, read 'applied model code' -combination of letters and numbers something like GC8C4DD (for example, that code is for a ver.2 STi type RA)
2)Post applied model code here
3)Wait for answer

Also quick check - does it have a small dial (centre diff control) down by the handbrake? If yes then its an STi-RA. If not it might be a WRX-RA but checking applied model code is best way to tell.

Who would expect you to be an expert on a new car?

To give you the correct info we need the applied model code -it's on the passenger side front suspension tower.

Pics will help too. There are a few varients on the 1996 Mica blue ones.

The 48D part denotes a 4 door wrx with manual gearbox.

So not an ra.....

Thanks for that. Seems to break it down a bit for me but there is a couple GC8C48D models weird, if it is the V-Limited is that good?

V Limited WRXs are quite rare I think mate.
